Out of this World: Australia in the Space Age

Welcome to the dawn of the space age. From the 1950s through to the 1970s, Australia was gripped with excitement as humanity made its first forays beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

From cutting-edge scientific research to architecture, design, television and more ‘Out of this World’ explores Australia’s role in the space race. Learn about the history of Woomera Rocket Range, see how futuristic architecture influenced Australia’s Expo pavilion in 1970, and meet everyone’s favourite pencil-nosed spaceman, Mr Squiggle.

The Out of this World: Australia in the Space Age exhibition is supported by the Australian Government's Visions of Australia program and the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, a program aiming to improve access to national collections for all Australians.

St Barb's Festival

The St Barbara’s Festival consists of the Miners Memorial Service and the St Barbara’s Parade. This year over 200 people honored those we have lost in the mining industry and up to 10,000 people came and experienced the Parade for all its glory and an amazing display of our vibrant Kalgoorlie-Boulder community.

Whale Season in Busselton

May to early December is Whale Season and the best time for whale watching and tours in the South West.

There are about 30,000 humpbacks, southern right (and sometimes blue) whales that swim past the south west corner of WA annually. You’ve just got to sit a while and look out to the horizon to spot them.

Dolphin Season in Bunbury

November to April is the best time of year for spotting this friendly local during Dolphin Season in Bunbury.

Koombana Bay is home to wild bottlenose dolphins who live in the bay year-round. An estimated additional 100 visit throughout the year, making Bunbury a dolphin hotspot! Approximately 20 to 40 of these are considered residents of Koombana Bay and regularly visit the waters outside Australia’s premier wild dolphin centre; Dolphin Discovery Centre
