It's Rail Safety Week

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Rail Safety Week (11-17 August), a national initiative reminding Australians to stay safe on and around the rail network.

Between 2016 and 2024, there were 744 fatalities and 812 injuries across railway networks in Australia. These figures are a reminder that rail safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The Public Transport Authority is proud to stand alongside more than 100 organisations, community groups, and government agencies in supporting Rail Safety Week. Together, we’re working to encourage safe behaviour around trains, tracks, and stations.

• Phone down. Look up. Stay alert near tracks and platforms.
• Expect the unexpected. Watch out for trains, they can come any time, day or night.

Rail Safety Week is led by the TrackSAFE Foundation, the rail industry’s harm prevention charity. TrackSAFE works to reduce fatalities and injuries on the rail network and also works to improve the wellbeing of the rail workforce.
